"Partisan Witch-hunt"

Whenever Congressional Republicans -- or Democrats, but mostly Republicans -- talk about why Barack Obama should let things lie and not investigate the crimes of the Bush administration, one of the reasons they give is that they don't want it to turn into a partisan witch-hunt. Which, besides just idea-leeching from Obama's plan to "end partisanship," makes no sense. The people that are investigated will be members of the Bush administration. These will be Republicans. The people doing the "investigating" will ostensibly be members of Congress, which has quite a sizeable Democratic majority. Not only that, but those spearheading the fight will obviously be Democrats, because barely any Republicans will want to be near this. So there's no real way to avoid the fact that the optics of this will invariably look partisan.
